University of South Florida Student Wellness & Recreation Center / New phased two-story addition and renovation on university campus / 73,000 GSF
The new center includes a 43,000 GSF addition and 30,000 GSF interior renovation to the existing facility, along with a portion of the USF Sun Dome Arena and USF Campus Recreation Center. Constructed adjacent to the Arena within a high pedestrian traffic area, this project required careful phasing and sequencing to maintain full operations of the existing occupied facilities and accommodate scheduled events.
The new facility includes a two-story sports and athletic training facility with elevated running track and fitness deck; intramural basketball court; exercise & fitness areas for weight and strength training, aerobics and cardiovascular training, classrooms, and retail area. The center features “wifi” throughout. The new dining facility features a food court, full commercial food services and a multi-use/dining area providing seating for 250 and venue for special events.
The project scope included replacement/remediation and waterproofing of the existing building envelope, a new roof and extensive site and utility work to accommodate a major pedestrian and utility corridor running through the project’s footprint.
