Eckerd Visual Arts Center/ New two-story hardened facility on occupied campus / 33,434 GSF – $15.9M
The Visual Arts Center is home to Eckerd College’s visual arts program including audiovisual, graphic, digital, ceramic and paint classes while also acting as the campus art gallery featuring art made by students on campus. A noted feature of the facility is the basement clay mixing room, a rare feature on a south Florida campus. This was achieved by raising the elevation of the project with over 12,000 cubic yards of fill from off site. Other special features of the building include: an exhaust system and sinks specifically equipped to handle the various chemicals used in the different art mediums, open room facilities, installed anchors to support sculptures and individual rooms with sealed concrete floors.
