St. Petersburg College Downtown Center / Multi-Phased multi-story campus renovation and expansion / 114,000 GSF

Completed under a fast track design-build process, this complex multi-phased renovation and addition project converted an existing department store into the new St. Petersburg College’s Downtown Center campus. The first phase entailed converting two decks of an existing parking garage into a new four-story state-of-the-art higher-education facility that included smart classrooms, computer labs, science labs, conferencing and meeting areas, administration offices and student services. Ground level space offered flexible exhibit space, administrative offices and retail space. The fourth floor houses administrative and conference space.

A major phase entailed construction of a new five-story addition abutting the occupied facility housing a 200-seat black-box theater on the second and third floors, home to the American Stage Theater. Also included was a multi-floor, clear story open entry atrium, multi-purpose space, ticket areas , concession area, rehearsal hall, administration offices, dressing rooms, Green Room, costume shop, storage, passenger and freight elevators. The new addition includes specialized acoustical sound barriers between the spaces. The later phases focused on the first floor lobby renovations/conversion, relocation of the Provost and administration offices, a food service café and campus book store. Phases were completed while the center remained open and occupied.
